Belfast, Maine is a beautiful town of approximately 6,600 residents located on the Maine coast. Any visitor to Belfast will certainly wish to take advantage of the many boating and sight-seeing opportunites this coastal town provides.
Belfast has a wonderful marina, and there are many different companies offering excursions on ships of all sizes. A cruise along the Maine coast provides a view of pristine blue waters and luxurious pine forests along the craggy rock-lined shore. Several cruises offer both boating and hiking opportunities which allow one to explore the natural beauty of Maine’s interior as well.
One interesting cruise a Belfast visitor may wish to take is to Cape Jellison to visit the sites at Fort Point State Park. At the park, make sure to visit Fort Pownall which was constructed in 1760 by Thomas Pownall.
Also at Fort Point State Park is the Fort Point Light Station which is just one of the many lighthouses doting the Maine coast. The Fort Point Light Station was built in 1837 and remains in service today. This lighthouse consists of a thirty-one foot tall gleaming, white tower next to a two-story, red-roofed house situated at the mouth of the Penobscot River.
